United Way of Greater Houston (UWGH) launched an Education Collaborative involving non-profit agencies with an objective that UWGH would lead an effort to develop and measure indicators of academic success. This evaluation utilized a mixed methods approach with data collection instruments—including surveys, observations, and interviews. Additionally, student academic data was requested through MOUs between UWGH and each school district on behalf of all agencies. The data requested included: standardized achievement scores, attendance, discipline, and other general student-level variables. Evaluators analyzed, tracked, and reported data findings. Findings from this evaluation will help agencies to gain clarity about what outcome data can provide, in regard to meaningful indicators of improved student achievement, reduced student dropout rates, and increased graduation rates.
