As educators, we often find ourselves isolated in silos constructed by our various histories – personal, educational, and professional, as well as our current lived experiences – family, scholarship, and professional roles and responsibilities. We must learn to “hear” and “see” our own language, culture, and heritage as family and educator, to identify and explore our own vulnerabilities that prevent us from, and/or open us to, confronting inequitable practices in education. This presentation is meant to (a) engage the audience in the process shared by the three authors of identifying, exploring, and making meaning of the vulnerabilities experienced as members of family and academia, as well as (b) encourage them to broaden the parameters of knowing and meaning-making in education.
