Abstract

Video technologies are increasingly being used in teacher education programs. Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA) is a performance assessment that uses video as a key component to determine if new teachers have the skills necessary to help their students learn. My research project is a study of an early childhood teacher education program’s efforts to introduce a video component in which students are required to video themselves teaching and reflect on their experiences. This paper reports on a pilot study, and the study combines microanalysis of videos with an analysis of student reflections on their videos and interviews with students, university instructors, field supervisors, and edTPA evaluators.
