Cross-National Analysis on Lower Secondary Teacher Characteristics and Their Homework Management Using Teaching and Learning International Survey 2013

Thu, April 16, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Sheraton, Floor: Fourth Level, Chicago VI&VII

Abstract

Utilizing Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) 2013, a new cross-national dataset, this study focuses on cross-national similarities and differences of the relationship between lower secondary teacher characteristics and their homework management to analyze in what situation we could maximize the function of homework in the global contexts. In response to the variation of teacher characteristics across countries, it also investigates what kind of country characteristics can help explain the relationship between teacher characteristics and their homework management. Preliminary analysis shows some interesting but mixed results on the relationship. It is anticipated that some variation is subject to cultural differences of homework management across countries, and the further HLM analysis would help understand nation-specific differences on teachers’ homework management.
