Fri, April 17, 8:15 to 9:45am, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside East

Abstract

Teachers—and prospective teachers—often face complex and complicated ethical dilemmas in the classroom. Some teachers find a way to confront the ethical issues and teach for social justice directly while others do not. Understanding moral courage can help individuals to address social justice and ethical issues in the classroom. In this study, moral courage is defined, ongoing discourses related to moral courage are explored, recognizing moral courage is deciphered, and strategies for developing and demonstrating moral courage in the classroom when faced with ethical challenges that teaching for social justice can bring are offered.
