Identification Age and Early Intervention Provision for Children With Disabilities Across Urbanicity

Fri, April 17, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Sheraton, Floor: Fourth Level, Chicago VI&VII

Abstract

Age of identification with special needs has predictability according to the disability type; however, this study looks at whether there are also differences in age of identification and provision of early intervention services based on the urbanicity of the child. Using data from SEELS , a large national survey of children with special needs, this study considers delivery rates of early intervention services provided by age 5 to children from rural, suburban, and urban areas identified as having special needs. The core finding indicates a smaller percentage of rural children received early intervention services compared to their suburban or urban peers.
