This paper reports on our collaborative self-study to highlight implications of the edTPA for bilingual education and TESOL students and faculty. Our study contributes to a growing dialogue around the edTPA from the perspective of three faculty members that participated in an experimental configuration of edTPA preparation for students in Childhood Bilingual Education, Bilingual Special Education and TESOL in a large teacher preparation program in New York City. As such, findings highlight how the edTPA does not directly address teaching bilingually as an area of specialty and the resulting ramifications of students’ clinical experience and preparation to work with emergent bilinguals (EBLs).
