Although teachers of color are seen as having more capacity for teaching a diverse student population than their White peers, there are few studies that offer methods to equip teachers of color to draw from their cultural knowledge and life experience. Based on interviews with six Black pre-service teachers and three Black graduates from a predominantly White teacher preparation program, we will point to implications for teacher educators who wish to better prepare Black pre-service teachers. The participants did not feel prepared to teach “all students” by the “colorblind” program. This study adds to the literature that draws from the narratives of Black pre-service teachers to understand their needs, challenges, and contributions to teacher education.
