Community-based programs play an important role in parent involvement for Hispanic parents, few programs however; have specifically focused on how to prepare low-income Hispanic parents to support their children’s academic success in the areas of reading, mathematics, and science. This evaluation investigates the effectiveness of a community-based parent involvement program that focused on preparing low-income Hispanic parents to support their children’s academic success in the areas of reading, mathematics, and science. Approximately 500 Hispanic parents and their children from three urban schools attended the program. The results indicate that parents reported deriving individual benefits from the program in their role as parent. Findings are discussed in the context of future directions for research on parent programs for culturally diverse families.
