Thu, April 16, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside East

Abstract

This study seeks to understand what it would mean for all graduate students at an Emerging Hispanic Serving Institution when the institution becomes an Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). To frame this study we consider scholarship that addresses issues of organizational change, as well as literature on Hispanic Serving Institutions. This study 1) expands the HSI literature by focusing on a newer type of HSI: research institutions with very high research activity; 2) expands the HSI literature by including an examination of graduate students; 3) expands the HSI literature by examining beyond the Latino/a community; and 4) offers an institutional model for others who will follow in similar footsteps. More broadly, this study informs policy and practice conversations in higher education.
