Does Block Location Influence Children's Performance During the Forward and Backward Administration of the Corsi Block Task?

Fri, April 17, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Sheraton, Floor: Fourth Level, Chicago VI&VII

Abstract

To date, considerable research into the administration of the Corsi Blocks task has highlighted notable characteristics, such as the influence of block location and the direction of block recall. However, the majority of studies have focused upon on adults and less on young populations. The purpose of this study was to examine whether different sequencing formats (forward and backward recall) applied to three different block locations (blocks adjacent, blocks non-adjacent, and blocks mixed) impacted children’s performance. Children’s (N = 79) performance on forward recall greater than sequence recall in the backward direction. As well, children’s recall of sequences with non-adjacent blocks and sequences with mixed blocks were found to be more difficult than sequences with adjacent blocks.
