Development of Data-Driven Instruction (DDI) Assessments: What Should Be Evaluated to Measure Teachers' DDI Knowledge

Abstract

To allow educators to measure the extent to which they have met their goal of improving teachers’ DDI knowledge, it is important to have valid measures of DDI. Based on the conceptual framework of DDI assessment, we examine what should be considered when evaluating teachers’ DDI knowledge using the Delphi study. The participants of the surveys provide their professional perspectives on the key criteria for written assessments of DDI knowledge. According to the responses of the participants, the DDI assessments need to consider how teachers balance multiple sources of student data, and how instructional knowledge relates to teachers' situated classroom practice. The DDI assessments also should consider the implications and translations of data analysis to instructional action.
