In 2010 and 2011 the Christchurch earthquakes had a devastating impact on the schooling infrastructure and networks. The subsequent rebuild is focused on designing and building modern learning environments with flexible teaching spaces promoting collaborative and team teaching. There is a scarce amount of evidence on the types of teaching structures within these new environments and the teaching decisions that inform them. This paper reports on an emerging project, led by two Christchurch schools in partnership with researchers, to describe the change in teaching organization and practice as a result of the rebuild. The project is participatory with shared analysis of video data and supporting qualitative interviews.
