Perceptions of Assessment Competency Among New Student Affairs Professionals

Abstract

This study examined new student affairs professionals’ perceptions about the importance of assessment and how proficient they are at conducting assessment. Additionally, respondents identified the delivery methods most helpful to learn assessment skills and those most likely to be used for learning assessment in the future. Generally, new professionals rated assessment as important but their proficiency across the assessments skills was much lower. Graduate programs and conferences were reported as most helpful for learning assessment.
