Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to develop and validate an instrument to measure student readiness in online learning focused on social, communication, and technical competencies of distance learners. 333 students from 12 different online courses at a Midwestern university participated in this study. As a result of EFA, four factor-structures of the instrument of student readiness in online learning explained 58.14% of the variance in the pattern of relationships among the items. All four factors had high reliabilities (all Cronbach’s α > .822). Twenty one items remain in the final questionnaire after deleting 1 item which cross-loaded on multiple factors. The four-factor structure of the measurement for Student Readiness in online learning has been confirmed through this study.
