The En-register-ment of Testing Language as Academic Language

Sat, April 18, 8:15 to 9:45am, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside East

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify Emerging Bilingual students’ opportunities for English Language Development (ELD) during which teaching academic language is a primary instructional objective (Goldenberg, 2008). Using data collected during a single-case study, I examine the enregisterment of academic language, which in the context of standards based reform, may be distinguishable between teaching the features of academic social language (Gee, 2005) and teaching the language of standards and assessments.
