A Socioecological Framework: The Reconstruction of Palestinian Education Between History, Politics, and Globalization

Sun, April 19, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside West

Abstract

Under occupation, many determinants influence the construction of an educational system such as occupation’s policies and practices, uncertainty of political future, and community readiness for change and reform. Understanding the effects of globalization is crucial to comprehending these determinants. In Palestine, building the national curriculum was a challenge given the international expectation that the curriculum should foster and promote peace. In reality, a disconnect occurred within the educational system for students given a lack of consideration into the direct and indirect trauma caused by conflict. Reviewing and discussing these challenges in the context of globalized education the panelists will examine the dynamics of conflict and education in Palestine through discourse analysis of policy, practices, and a community health perspective.
