Instructional Technology Courses in Teacher Education: A Study of In-Service Teachers' Perceptions and Recommendations

Fri, April 17, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Marriott, Floor: Fourth Level, Addison

Abstract

This study examined K-12 educators' perceptions of the technology courses that were integrated in their program of study and the extent to which the courses influenced the educators’ technology competencies. In addition, the study explored teacher recommendations for technology training through their programs. A purposeful sample of Forty-five K-12 teachers participated in the study. A survey was used in the collection of both quantitative and qualitative data. Findings indicate that though most teachers had taken technology courses during teacher training, they still lack technology integration methods; majority indicated that the courses did not prepare them effectively, they are not able to design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology for diverse learners. In-service teacher recommendations for teacher preparation are discussed.
