Developing and Assessing Conceptual Thinking About Vulnerability Toward Global Climate Change in Teachers Serving Native American Communities

Mon, April 20, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Hyatt, Floor: West Tower - Green Level, Crystal BC

Abstract

Global climate change is a crucial environmental issue that is challenging all Americans. Certain Native American communities have already reported land loss due to inundation while others are reporting loss of biodiversity. The teachers serving these populations are expected to motivate students to think about evaluating environmental risks and developing behavioral skills needed to mitigate and adapt these scenarios. In this study, we analyzed data using photo-elicitation interviews and concept maps from teachers serving Native American students to reveal their understanding about global climate change.
