School turnaround policies have compelled changes in schools that are larger in scale than ever before. While some schools have thrived with the new funding and freedoms available to them under turnaround policies, others have continued to struggle. The changes that come with school turnaround can offer new opportunities for teachers to take on leadership roles that support change. However, the large-scale, fast-moving nature of turnaround can also create challenges when attempting to integrate teacher leadership into new structures, cultures, and instructional approaches. This study illuminates both the potential for teacher leadership roles in a turnaround context and the challenges that emerged within a model that included such roles.
