African America students in the United States are more likely today to attend segregated schools than they were a generation ago. Despite Brown v. Board of Education and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, research shows that educational disparities continue to stratify students in American public schools. Examining this claim, this study sought to explore the educational landscape in one major suburban school district in the southeastern region of the country. Using existing data from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights, the findings indicate African American students contend with inequitable and unequal educational experiences. With educational disparities in mind, recommendations are provided in hope of improving the schooling experiences of African American students.
