Effective classroom behavior management is challenging yet essential for productive learning. Students with special needs may require specific behavioral management techniques due to their unique responses to certain teaching styles. Given that behavior management is a constant issue that teachers must contend with and individual students have diverse responses to different behavior management techniques, this study focuses on determining which behavior management techniques are best for elementary school students with special needs. The study attempted to address these issues by (1) evaluating teacher-based perceptions of behavior management techniques; (2) determining the efficacy of various behavior management methods via classroom observation; and (3) implementing and evaluating a behavior management scheme that allows teachers and students to self-monitor their behavior.
