(Re)Formation of Koreanness Through Crisis in Educational Reform

Abstract

My project considers how politics of crisis have been circulated within South Korean national educational reform discourses before and after the financial crisis of 1997 generally known as the IMF occurrence. Using Michel Foucault’s concept of biopower and Jean-François Lyotard’s concept of performativity, I pursued comparative content analysis of educational reform discourses and researched how the concept of crisis has engaged in the (re)formation of Koreanness as national imaginaries.
