In this paper, I consider the notion of teaching as artistry. I explore what this view implies in terms of shaping the kinds of experiences that prepare and support teachers as they navigate the diverse social and ideological complexities of contemporary early schooling. I draw from experiences with pre-service teachers in one particular teacher preparation program to illustrate. Ultimately, I argue that understanding teaching as artistry makes it possible to uniquely situate early childhood teaching and teacher learning within larger contemporary educational discourses.
