Abstract

A number of Black male college students have graduate school aspirations but few actually matriculate into graduate school. They are deterred from matriculating for various reasons. This study looks at the role unsupportive relationships in attempting to deter graduate school enrollment. It highlights strategies Black males who are currently enrolled in Ph.D. programs utilized to negotiate those relationships.
