This paper investigates the pedagogies constituted within a youth-led, participatory theatre production with eight street-involved youth who invited me to co-create, direct, and research a theatrical production (Author et al., 2009). Through analyses of ethnographic data generated during the theatrical production, this investigation unpacks critical literacy spaces, and how meaning was created and negotiated throughout the process. I analyze moments within the theatre performance process as a part of a collective of pedagogical spaces through the visual methodological lens of critical youth studies. By focusing on particular moments in these pedagogical spaces, I examine how meaning is collectively constructed, how multimodal literacy practices are used in critical ways, how desire is manifested through imaginaries, and how resistance is evident.
