The purpose of this project was to examine the effect of implementing a team-based intervention system in twenty southern high schools on student engagement and to examine the individual contributions of engagement support on the self-reported behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement of students. Findings from a survey of 3,282 students suggest that a team-based intervention system shows promise as a way to increase engagement of 9th grade students. In addition, school-based engagement support, such as caring teachers and administration fairness also are related to student engagement in school. In addition to the first year findings, surveys from a total of 6,899 students have been collected in the second year and will be analyzed to examine trends.
