Abstract

A Portrait of Father Involvement in a K-6th School
This study explored father involvement in their children education in an elementary school by applying Epstein’s model of overlapping spheres that lays a framework of six types of involvement. This study employed triangulation of the three data sources: 132 surveys were filled out by mothers and 112 were filled out by fathers. 26 long interviews with administrators and teachers, and field notes that provided major insights regarding fathers’ perceptions of their academic engagement with their children and their perceptions of their children’s school. The respondents represented a range of ethnic groups, similar to the population of the elementary, K-6th school and surrounding area.
