Abstract

Quality Matters Program (2011) identifies “Learner Interaction and Engagement” as standard 5 focusing on the use of interactive learning activities providing for students to be active learners to scaffold their achievement. Limited research exists on examining how to structure what Borokhovski et al. (2012) refer to as designed interaction opportunities, which aim to intentionally scaffold collaboration among students. This research provides an illustrative example of the use of a designed interaction form using a constructivist approach across four sections of a graduate course in program evaluation (N = 65). We examined the number and degree of quality of student-student interactions and whether these related to the students’ overall performance in the course as defined by their percentage grade.
