Mon, April 20, 8:15 to 9:45am, Hyatt, Floor: West Tower - Green Level, Crystal BC

Abstract

This study proposes a visualization knowledge peer network (VKPN) service to enhance online social learning. A VKPN is an interpersonal network based on a knowledge network. A system with a VKPN can connect students to corresponding knowledge units quickly and can scaffold them to locate (learner) experts or peers. VKPN were tried and tested in online courses. Participants’ motivation and satisfaction levels and the effects of the VKPN on participants’ academic outcomes were analyzed. The results indicate that there is a highly positive correlation between learning achievements and the use of a VKPN.
