The purpose of this study is to identify potential benchmarks on the NAEP grades 8 and 12 science assessments that indicate being on track for achieving college readiness. Specifically, potential benchmarks for grades 8 and 12 NAEP science are computed using external benchmarks identified by ACT assessment programs at grades 8 and 12 through. These results are used to compare the college readiness of student subpopulations (e.g. gender, race/ethnicity, states) within and across years. Our findings show that the college readiness benchmarks were scattered around NAEP’s proficient cut score in both grades 8 and 12. The results also showed differences in the percentages of college ready students by student subgroups.
