Ethnic Identity and Intergroup Attitudes Among Korean American Adolescents

Abstract

Most Korean students identify themselves as Korean or Korean American, and not as Asian or Asian American. The purpose of the present study is to examine the relationship between Korean American adolescents’ ethnic identity and intergroup attitudes. The participants were students in seventh grade from two ethnic groups: The participants were students in seventh grade from two ethnic groups: 116 Koreans and 148 Korean Americans. Hypotheses were tested using the structural equation modeling (SEM) program EQS (Bentler, 2006). The findings have important theoretical and practical implications for intergroup attitudes among Korean American adolescents in ethnically mixed school settings.
