Conflicts over resource development in Indigenous territories currently exist across Canada, the United States, and around the world. As a land-based Métis scholar and educator, I have observed and participated in many instances of resistance to such developments. In my experience, these kinds of socio-ecological conflicts not only raise critical awareness amongst activists, but also hold the potential to foster increased dialogue and pedagogical opportunities for communities and institutions.
In this presentation I will share insights and findings from a recent study into the pedagogical experiences of Indigenous activists and non-Indigenous allies involved in resistance to natural resource development across Canada. Critical discussion regarding similar experiences in other nations will also be invited.
