This paper explores Michel Foucault’s genealogical ideas and works in order to provide potential openings to genealogy to make it more accessible to the field of education. This paper draws from Deleuze and Guattari as well as Foucault in order to “plug in” genealogical notions into the Afro-Brazilian dance, martial art, game Capoeira. Plugging capoeira into genealogy changes not only scholars and dancers’ experiences with the body, movement, and power-knowledge, but continuously changing practices and scholarly encounters with oneself and others will prompt new rules and maybe completely new game of research and methodology.
