An Analysis of Teacher Educators' Classroom Observation Reports

Thu, April 16, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Sheraton, Floor: Fourth Level, Chicago VI&VII

Abstract

One of the most basic components in the teacher training process is the mentoring session that takes place after prospective teachers conduct practice lessons. Typically, this mentoring session is informed by observation reports that teacher educators produce as they observe these practice lessons. This study analyzes various forms of observation reports ranging from lists of comments to detailed descriptions of the lesson’s progression. It then shows that different forms of reports are associated with different types of feedback, which in turn can shape the nature and effectiveness of the mentoring session.
