This paper addresses the problem of caring and focuses particularly on leadership for developing caring in schools. Synthesizing multiple academic and occupational literatures for the first time, this paper develops the concept of caring in school organization and presents a framework that situates the process of caring in organizational context. From this conceptual and theoretical work, the paper focuses on leadership practice conducive to caring in schools. This paper contributes to the understanding of leadership for caring schools, a cross-cutting theme of new draft 2014 ISLLC Standards. It also responds to the growing importance being placed on social-emotional and affective dimensions of schools for student engagement and success.
