Positive youth development (PYD) emphasizes personal development, positive relationships, and academic enrichment. Research on PYD suggests that sports, physical education, and physical activity programs are well-positioned to promote PYD. This presentation extends our understanding of PYD by presenting an evidence-based model for successful partnerships linked to an integrated model of PYD. Interviews with key stakeholders, including children, parents, school faculty, undergraduate volunteers, and PYD program staff highlight the importance of relationships among the program, school district, university, and community. Data suggests that an interests convergence among the stakeholders can foster positive behavioral and academic outcomes in youth. Importantly, sport can serve as the catalyst to engage with youth and sustain their interest over time.
