A cross-disciplinary arts inquiry project is discussed and the relevance for the author's creative process as a music and sound artist is explored. In the process, pedagogical possibilities for similar cross-media and cross-modal are considered. In particular, how cross-disciplinary arts-based research projects might afford students the opportunity to rethink taken-for-granted attitudes about their own creative practice, as well as the cultural/aesthetic ecologies they inhabit; i.e. how such activities might open arts students to more reflective and imaginative ways of being-in-the-world, while simultaneously developing deeper historical, technical, and aesthetic understandings of the art forms they are engaged in.
