We're in This Together: Emerging K–16 Partnerships and Strategies to Reduce College Remediation

Thu, April 16, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Hyatt, Floor: West Tower - Green Level, Crystal B

Abstract

Using a multiple cross-case analysis across four states, this paper focuses on emerging early assessment programs and transitional curricula targeted at students who may be on track to graduate high school without being college-ready. We conducted a national survey and in-depth interviews with informants in four key states to learn about the creation, design and use of these interventions. In the process, we studied the prevalence and value of collaborative efforts between K-12 educators and higher education that increase communication and “signaling” around ways to improve college preparation and reduce remediation. This paper is intended to inform state and local policy makers about the characteristics and benefits of such collaboration.
