This scholarly paper aims to explore and deconstruct the college experience of student-athletes, underrepresented minorities (URM), and students abroad through the theoretical lens of intersectionality. Based on a critical review of the literature, each of these representative cases focusing on student-athletes, URM students, and URM study abroad students clearly identified a gap in the literature and provided significant evidence for the need to use the evolving work on intersectionality theory to guide future studies. With more knowledge about how intersecting identities impacts identity formation within the collegiate experience institutions of higher education ought to be able to better respond to the needs of their students.
