The main objective of this research is to develop surveys, collect and analyze data that provide an assessment of interest in STEM from university-level undergraduates, graduate students and faculty in the US and other countries among the leaders in areas related to STEM. In this study we present data collected from nearly 3300 respondents in China, the US and Australia. While there are many noteworthy similarities and differences, this presentation will focus on those related to the timing and experiences associated with triggering initial interest in STEM. We expect this work will contribute to the discussions of policy and practice regarding changes to STEM education to engage more students in the US and abroad.
