This proposal aims to identify individual and institutional predictors of the job satisfaction, general job strain and emotional exhaustion as well as of specific job strains (stemming from specific leadership activities) based on regression analyses and path modeling. Quantitative data of 5394 school-leaders was used (RR=40%). The results show that stress resilience and social support by faculty members are the strongest predictors. There appear to be no specific fields of activities in school leadership practices which contribute more to the experienced job strain than others. Across all countries on average 16% of the school leaders are identified as highly strained based on cluster analysis. However, the size of this risk group various from state to state.
