This study explores Response to Intervention (RTI) within the context of a mandated statewide implementation, with an emphasis on the experiences of school counselors. A survey was developed to measure school counselors’ RTI training, levels of confidence, and changes in responsibilities. Results indicated that although the majority of school counselors agree RTI can improve academic and behavioral outcomes, they had little confidence in those responsibilities they reported as most significantly changed since RTI implementation. Overall, the regression model tested accounted for 55% of the variance in perception of RTI as a beneficial change. Implications of findings for preservice and inservice training of school counselors, as well as the leadership role that school counselors can play in this initiative, are discussed.
