Developing Faculty Knowledge of Technology-Enhanced Teaching Through Collaborative Action Research

Mon, April 20, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Sheraton, Floor: Second Level, Arkansas

Abstract

This paper describes the experiences of higher education faculty participating in a unique professional development initiative. The initiative provided faculty opportunities to: build knowledge about technology-enhanced teaching, develop a collaborative learning and research community of faculty members around technology-enhanced teaching, and serve as future workshop facilitators for other faculty and students. Using a collaborative action research approach, participants documented how their teaching practices changed to embrace technology-enhanced teaching. Findings indicated that change in teaching practice was prompted by: 1) technology professional development based on expressed instructional needs, 2) a workshop model that fostered transfer of knowledge into practical classroom application, and 3) a collaborative researcher community supporting reflection and research on changing teaching practice and promoting teacher leadership.
