Middle level teachers’ growth in mathematics knowledge for teaching (MKT) in relation to their completion of a professional development project focusing on the teaching of fundamental mathematics content at a deep conceptual level was evaluated. Latent growth curve modeling (LGM) was used to analyze participants’ growth in MKT across four time points. The findings indicated a positive association exists between project participation and growth of MKT. The limitations and practical implications for the professional development of mathematics teachers are discussed.
