Broader literature on the present Black American experience frames a narrative of generational deficits, opportunity gaps, and isolation from dominant society that influences negative race-based assumptions. The major gap in the present literature is that it often guided by hegemonic narratives that fail to provide an agency-based perspective that balances perspectives. This study fills the void by providing an agency-based narrative of Black Human Action. Through a qualitative phenomenological study, a focus group of Black researchers, community activists, and urban educators with shared experiences will perform a document analysis to determine themes in the hegemonic narrative of Black Human Acton. Through their experience and interaction, a framework for constructing an agency-based narrative of Black Human Action will emerge.
