The concept of teacher leadership is receiving increased attention in the language and practices of current educational reforms. Teacher leaders are increasingly called upon to support the integration of best practices in the classroom and among colleagues, as well as to support progress towards systemic, organizational goals (Hart, 1995; Leithwood, 1994; Stoelinga, 2008; Stoelinga & Mangin, 2010; Weiss et al., 1992). This study aims to contribute to current research efforts to operationalize different forms of teacher leadership that occur within and beyond the classroom. Results provide detailed descriptions of target priorities, skills and means of influence, and specific teacher leadership roles associated with four forms of teacher leadership in the context of science education.
