Recent federal initiatives, such as Race-to-the-Top (RTT), have provided incentives for state and districts to further examine policies and programs to improve leadership in schools. A particular emphasis has been placed on linking principal evaluation measures with student outcome measures, to improve student performance. The recent movement to hold school leaders accountable for student outcomes has largely focused on traditional school leaders; leaders in alternative schools have received less attention.
