Alternative and Extended (A&E) Practicum: Identifying Practices and Dispositions in Teacher Candidates' Narratives on Inclusive Education

Thu, April 16, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside West

Abstract

This study examines the narratives of teacher candidates that have participated in an alternative and extended (A&E) practicum. The aim is to examine the messaging of social justice and inclusive education as it impacts on the practicum. Two focus groups were conducted using open-ended interviews. The coding around the emerging discussion would illustrate how the participants communicated, understood, and animated their knowledge, skills, and dispositions around developing inclusive classrooms. It is hoped that teacher candidates engage in self-study of their practices and offer up discussions on critical reflections.
