Degree Attainment Abroad: What Do We Know About Its Impact?

Abstract

This paper provides a systematic review of prior research on the individual and societal impact of postsecondary degree attainment abroad and identifies important directions future research. The review is informed by human capital theory. The body of research reviewed focuses on foreign degree attainment among students from both developed and developing countries, and includes descriptive, exploratory, and quantitative studies.
